WHAT MEMBERS CAN DO

WOW is a small, active 501 (c) 3 organization.  Membership fees are used to fund our projects, keep our website current, and cover our operating expenses.  All leaders and members volunteer their time.  JOIN AND ASK YOUR FRIENDS TO JOIN.  EVERY MEMBERSHIP COUNTS.  Sponsor a member for one of our WOW africa or Nepal women.

Your membership indicates your support of our efforts to ADVOCATE for women, continue our mission to EDUCATE, and carry out worldwide HUMANITARIAN activities.  As a member, you may have a voice, a vote, and a role in WOW projects and goals.

Let us know if you want to take an active role.  We invite your participation by taking a leadership position, attending UN meetings, leading a humanitarian project, or planning events.   You may also participate in supporting roles.   We always need writers, website managers, travel agents, trainers, videographers, and photographers.  We do a lot of work at the United Nations in New York and Geneva, and we can always use help in those locations.  Much of our work can be done from home.  Many meetings are online or via conference calls.

Support and advance our causes: Volunteer your time.  The WOW organization can always use your help.  Here are some specific roles we need now:

Strategic Planning committee: This committee will be meeting in 2009,10 to look at sustainability and long range plans for WOW

Membership committee: We have a chair but can always use people we like to be organized and keep people connected

Publicity and web site:  WOW we can never have enough help with our web site.  If you are a Blogger or know web language we need YOU!

Librarian:  (No card file involved) We are looking for someone to collect information on   books pertaining to the mission of WOW and submit them to the web master for posting. Most of us on the board have a reading list of books that have inspired us.  It is just a matter of talking to us and collecting our reviews.

Standing rules and resolutions; We are looking for a few good members to give text to the work of WOW.  Everything cannot be in the bylaws and we need a committee or person to put into words what we do and how it should be done so the organization can move forward.

Calendar person: We could use someone to keep our calendar (all the conferences and meeting available to attend worldwide.)  We know what they are just no time to get them on the schedule for all to see.  We need it compiled and posted on a goggle calendar site.

EDUCATION

Get informed:   There are several ways you can do this.  Let us help, check out our links and the information there.

World Reading Day: (link) Collect books or sponsor an event locally. We will have info up on the site soon

Be a Trainer for the FACTS education program: We have sponsored the FACTS program with a grant from the Utah health department for the last 10 years. Our FACTS program is no longer funded through the government.  We need trainers who would like to help teach this abstinence program.  We will train you, and provide materials.

Attend a meeting or sit on a committee at the UN.  Contact us    wow@wowinfo.org  if you are available to join us.  We are often invited to attend international conferences.  It is nice to have members who can attend these events. See calendar of upcoming events.

Attend a conference and share what you learned.  Attend a conference in your area relating to women and family issues. Write about it on our blog.  Or write about it on your blog and link to us.  Add links you feel are helpful on the subjects you learn about. Tweet out to other members when you hear abouot something interesting.

Read a book and share .  There are several books on our book list (link.that are good sources of information on issues we care about.  Read a book or watch a documentary and have a group of friends over to talk about the issues.  Report your efforts on the WOW  blog OR WRITE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AND LINK TO US.

ADVOCACY

Write a letter.  Every day, decisions are made in local, state and national bodies that effect women.  Speak out on issues you feel need a voice.  If you will not do this, who will? Check out our Resolutions (link) to find out what our stand is on these issues.  We can provide back up information for you

Become a specialist in an area or volunteer in an area you are already knowledgeable in.  We need women to chair many of these critical issues.  If you like to organize around an issue, we would love to have your leadership.

WOW leaders and guests at the October WOW Conference

Attend a Conference.  When we learn about an issue we can start to change behavior.

Tweet about what you have learned and refer them to the WOW web site for more information.

Invite your Facebook friends to the WOW site.   Encourage them to speak out.

Join WOW and contribute a membership for a woman  in a third world country.  We are working to give all women a voice. With these funds we can insure there is a WOW member who can grow the organization in her village or community.

Mobilize: When there is an issue of importance to women in your local legislature rally the troops and make a stand.

Know the resolutions WOW has taken a position on.  Submit updates or write your own resolution.  Resolutions are voted on by the membership at the annual meetings.

Prevent child abuse.  WOW partners with Women’s World Summit Foundation every year in November.  We are looking for projects to help  communities become more aware of this issue.  WWSF P.O. Box 143 – 1211 Geneva 20 – Switzerland Fax (+41 22) 738 82 48 More information it is on their website: http://www.woman.ch/home.php.  If you are interested in doing a local project under the WOW name for this issue contact us  wow@wowinfo.org

HUMANITARIAN ACTIVITIES

We need members of our Humanitarian Project coordinating committee: this committee will set up guidelines for humanitarian project approval and recommend projects to the WOW Board

WOW is working with several projects.  You can be assured these projects are legitimate and that the funds you donate will assist in reaching the stated goals.  Click here (humanitarian page) to see how you can help. You don’t have to go far away to help.

Volunteer your time.  There are many local organizations in need of volunteers.  Here are suggestions of some that promote our goals:

Literacy: Call your local literacy agency and ask to help women or children learn to read.  Kids cannot succeed if they cannot read and women cannot teach their families if they cannot read themselves.

Facebook:Post your efforts on our WOW Facebook page. Twitter to find others doing similar projects.  Direct them to our WOW organization.

Call a local woman’s shelter and ask how you can help. Domestic violence hurts more than women, it hurts families and society. :

One of our partners is American Mothers.  We are both part of the Mother’s Legacy Project. (link) Go to Mother’s Legacy Project and add a story about a woman or mother you know who has made a difference.

PLANNING A CONFERENCE:  IF YOU HAVE THESE SKILLS WE NEED YOU!

FUNDRAISINGVOLUNTEERS ALWAYS NEEDED!!!
